WESTLAND, Mich.--The Adrian College men's and women's bowling squads ended the month of February with a statement, as both teams had a runner-up finish at the American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference Tournament titles at Westland Bowl.
The Adrian men made its first cut ever in eighth place with a 3674 pin total for 20 baker games. The Bulldogs then bowled four more baker games and made it through the next eight games to reach the finals. That's where they battled Division II Saginaw Valley State University, ending in second place.
On the women's side, nationally-ranked Top-30 Adrian made the cut among the top-eight teams with a 3842 pin total for fourth place after the qualifying round. The Bulldogs eventually made the championship round to conclude in second place.
This marks the best finishes for both Adrian teams at the AHIBC Championships.
“This was the best tournament for us here. There isn’t much more I can ask for--both teams bowled great and they both caught some bad breaks in the last game," said first-year coach John Essenmacher III. "This is the best time to be bowling this well with sectionals coming up and both teams are bowling their best in the right time of the season.”
Next up, Adrian will participate at the United States Bowling Congress Sectional Qualifier for individuals and teams on March 11-13.
