Turnovers Doom Adrian Women's Basketball at Trine in a 79-48 MIAA Defeat

ANGOLA, Ind.--Freshman Sadia Johnson scored a team-high 17 points, but Adrian College's offense couldn't get on track in a 79-48 loss at Trine University in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

TOP 'DAWGS
= Johnson made 7 of 12 field goals and had two offensive rebounds.

= Freshman Angelina Goosby led the team with six rebounds.

= Junior transfer Starnisha Harris (6 points) led all student-athlets with five assists and she had two steals.

THE OPPOSITION
Hayley Martin led the Thunder with game highs of 19 points and six rebounds.

Montana Martin was instant offense off the bench by scoring 17 points on 5-for-6 shooting (including 3-for-3 on 3balls) and 4-of-6 from the free throw stripe in 20 minutes of action.

Brandi Dawson chipped in 12 points, while Ashley Elliott tied teammate Martin and Adrian's Goosby for game-high honors in rebounds (6).

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian committed a season-high 25 turnovers that translated to 30 Trine points.

= The Thunder held the Bulldogs to a .347 field goal percentage (17-49) and the visitors missed all 14 three-point attempts. Trine went 27-for-63 (42.9) from the floor.

= Trine--which led wire-to-wire--darted to a 21-8 advantage after the first quarter. After leading 32-21 at halftime, the Thunder took control of the contest with a 31-7 third quarter.

= Trine also had good depth as its bench outscored Adrian, 39-16.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian has lost three consecutive games for the first time this season.

= The Thunder--who are receiving votes in the national Top-25 poll--ran their winning streak to 11 games, which is the third-longest in school history.

= Johnson, who is Adrian's leading scorer at 14.5 points per game, has reached double-digits in all but two games in 2016-17.

This was the eighth time this season that the Thunder has held its opponent to under 50 points. It is also the fifth time that Trine has won by more than 30 points.

= Adrian failed to make a three-point field goal for the first time since Feb. 3, 2011, at Calvin College. The Bulldogs had made at least one trey in each of the last 115 games.
