NAIA-Scholarship Siena Heights Pulls Away in Second Half to Deal Women's Basketball a 76-57 Loss

ADRIAN, Mich.--April Watson scored 20 of her game-high 28 points in the first half to help set the tone for a 76-57 non-conference victory for NAIA-scholarship Siena Heights over visiting Adrian College on Tuesday evening in a battle of city bragging rights.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior Marissa Cotton came off the bench to net 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting, including three 3-pointers.

= Freshman Sadia Johnson matched Cotton with a team-best 13 points, making 6-of-10 from the field, in 19 minutes of action.

= Senior Kennedy Kunce led the Bulldogs with four rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION
= Watson, who was 10-for-11 at the free throw stripe, added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.

Sharmaine Wills led all student-athletes with 11 rebounds.

Azalea Miller (11 points) dished a game-best six assists.

Clara Waidley also scored in double digits with 12 points for the Saints.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Siena Heights outshot Adrian from the field, 42.4 percent (25-59) to 34.4 (22-64), and attacked the basket to outscore the Bulldogs from the free throw line, 19-5.

= Adrian went toe-to-toe with SHU in the first quarter as the teams ended 10 minutes tied 16-apiece. The Bulldogs had their perimeter game working early on by making four treys.

= Siena Heights won the second quarter, 28-15, to go into the intermission up 44-31. Shannon Garvey (5 points) gave Adrian its last lead of 20-19 at the 9:27 mark.

= The Bulldogs got to within eight points, 46-38, on a Cotton jumper with 5 minutes and 44 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Adrian scored 15 of the frame's 26 points--only three possessions away from tying it.

= But the Saints used a 10-0 run to open the fourth quarter and take a commanding 65-46 cushion. Adrian was unable to get it within single digits after that.

= The Saints won the glass, 42 to 26, but only had a 10-7 advantage in second-chance points.

= Adrian's bench outscored Siena's 25-15, led by Cotton and Kunce with seven points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Siena Heights is affiliated with the NAIA Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

= Adrian is 2-0 when scoring 80-plus points this season.

UP NEXT
= Adrian will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and prepare for its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener on the road at Kalamazoo College on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.).
