Sadia Johnson Scores Team-High 15 Points to Lead Four Starters in Double Digits

MEADVILLE, Pa.--Freshman Sadia Johnson scored a career- and team-high 15 points to lead four Bulldog starters in double digits as Adrian College defeated host school Allegheny College, 88-79, in the Greg Richards '00 Memorial Tip-Off Tournament opener.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Johnson rounded out her solid scoring night with three assists and four steals.

= Classmate Shannon Garvey and junior Starnisha Harris added 13 points apiece and senior Brigitte Zavithsanos added 12.

= Freshman Angelina Goosby led Adrian with seven rebounds and she scored seven points.

= Zavithsanos dished a game-best seven assists against ZERO turnovers and she added three steals.

THE OPPOSITION
= Allegheny also had four double-digit scorers led by Delaney Arbore with a game-high 20 points, including three 3-pointers.

= Fellow starter Olivia Barkley posted a double-double with 14 points and game-best 11 rebounds.

Emily Smith and Candaisy Crawford chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively, off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= The Bulldogs used their pressure defense to create 25 Gator turnovers that turned into 27 points off those free possessions. Adrian ended up with 16 steals, led by Harris who had five to lead all players.

= Despite getting outrebounded 50 to 41, Adrian attacked the rim to outscore the Gators 44 to 26 in the paint.

= Adrian started the contest with a 9-2 lead at the 6-minute, 35-second mark of the first quarter. 

= The Gators took their first lead on a Smith trey to make it 18-17 with 58 seconds left.

= Zavithsanos' lay-up at 6:41 in the second quarter made it 25-20 in Adrian's favor before back-to-back buckets by Michela Contestabile and Zoe Soilis gave Allegheny a 31-28 advantage with 4:14 left.

= After Smith made another 3ball to up the lead to 34-29, the Bulldogs ended the first half on a 9-0 scoring run to go into intermission up 38-34. 

= In the third quarter, the Gators built their largest lead of the afternoon, 55-46, after Barkley made a jump shot with 3:45 to go.

= Adrian had another good response by ending the frame on an 11-2 run to tie it 57-57 going into the fourth. The Bulldogs made 5 of 6 free throws during that stretch.

= Delaney Arbore's three-pointer at 8:24 gave Allegheny its last lead of the game at 65-62.

= Johnson sparked a 12-0 run over a 3:19 span with a pair of free throws and lay-in to put the Bulldogs in the lead to stay, 74-65, with 4:23 left in the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian--which won at Marietta, 89-84, in the season opener--scored 80 points or more in back-to-back games for the first time since Coach Kathy Morris' first year at the helm during the 1992-93 season. The Bulldogs lost to Indiana Tech, 83-81, on Dec. 18, 1992, before rebounding the next day with a big 113-60 win over Taylor-Ind.

= Adrian also defeated Allegheny in the schools' only previous meeting on Nov. 16, 2001, 72-63.

= The Bulldogs are 2-0 for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign and won their first two road games to begin a season for the first time since 2008-09.

= Through two games, Adrian is averaging 88.5 points while shooting 45.5 percent from the field (61-for-134).
