GOSHEN, Ind.--Junior Kennedy Kunce scored a career- and game-high 14 points off the bench to pace Adrian College, but the Bulldogs couldn't overcome a slow start in a 76-60 non-conference loss at Goshen College on Tuesday. The host Maple Leafs, 11-1 on the season, are ranked No. 24 in this week's NAIA Division II women's basketball national poll, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-4 overall after their two-game win streak is snapped.
Kunce's previous high in an Adrian uniform is five points, established earlier this season. She also pulled down nine rebounds for another personal best. Senior Antoinea McElroy added a game-high 13 rebounds and scored eight points, while senior co-captain Amber McCullough led all student-athletes with four steals and added seven points.
Goshen, which raced to an 18-0 lead to start the first quarter, was led by Lynnia Noel and Tyra Carver with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Maple Leafs outrebounded Adrian 61-50. Both teams struggled from the field as Goshen shot 35.1 percent (26-74) while the Bulldogs were 25.7 (19-74).
Goshen built a 32-11 halftime lead. The lead grew to 31 points, 45-14, midway through the third quarter as Adrian couldn't get closer than the final margin of 16.
The Bulldogs, who still lead the all-time series over Goshen 2-1, won the second half 49-44.
Adrian--whose two of four losses this season are to NAIA scholarship programs--returns to the court on Saturday (2 p.m.) at non-conference foe Anderson-Ind.
