OBERLIN, Ohio - The women's basketball team got a spark from senior Rachael Walker on Wednesday (Jan. 2) but it was not enough in a 67-61 loss at Oberlin College dropping the team to 4-9 overall and 0-8 away from the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center.
Walker scored a season-high 13 points having scored just 11 points this season coming into the game. She also dished out a season-best five assists and grabbed three rebounds in 29 minutes. Walker went 6-of-11 from the field and was 5-of-7 inside the arc. Freshman Antoinea McElroy also scored a season-high 14 points going 6-of-12 from the floor in 30 minutes.
The Bulldogs did not have an answer on the defensive end for Christina Marquette. She scored a season-high 30 points in 39 minutes going 10-of-23 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the foul line. Marquette scored 23 points in the second half and connected on a pair of three-pointers. Marquette completed an all-around effort with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Oberlin (7-5) shot 37.9 percent in the first half as Adrian led 30-28 at the half. The Bulldogs shot it at a 46.4 percent clip in the opening 20 minutes. The Yeowomen shot 48.1 percent in the second half while Adrian shot 40 percent. The Bulldogs were 6-of-6 at the foul line but simply did not get to the line enough. Six attempts at the charity stripe was a season-low for the Bulldogs.
Junior LaQwana Dockery led Adrian with 15 points and grabbed six rebounds (five offensive) in 31 minutes. Dockery also had two assists, two blocks and two steals. Junior Lauren Rhoads scored all of her 10 points in the second half going 3-of-9 total from the field including 2-of-4 from behind the arc. The Bulldogs scored 29 of their 61 points off the bench.
