ADRIAN, Mich.-–Adrian College men's wrestling coach Bill Schindel couldn't have scripted the ending to Saturday's Black and Gold intrasquad dual any better.
Donald Moses used an escape and two stalling points for a 3-1 decision to lift the Black team to a 24-21 win over the Gold squad in the Bulldogs' first action of the season.
"This should be a lesson to you," Schindel told his team after the dual. "You have to fight in college for every point. We all have a lot of work to do."
Judah Caballero used two four-point nearfall turns en route to a 12-2 major decision to put the Gold team up 4-0 to start the dual.
Malachi Green earned a 5-3 win and put the Gold team up 7-0 after 133 pounds.
Dom Paterra put the Black team on the board with a pin in 2:15 to make the dual score 7-6.
At 149 pounds, Noah Nieman used three takedowns to get a 10-4 victory to move Gold up 10-6.
Dylan Steward's tech fall at 157 pounds inched the Black ahead by a point.
An injury default at 165 put Gold up 16-11.
Bryant Moore earned a technical fall at 174 pounds and Gold led 21-11.
But Black would win the next three weight classes to take the dual.
Devon Pingel picked up a major decision at 184 pounds, Seth Demoines fall at 197 pounds and Moses' win at heavyweight ended the night.
"Sitting back, I was kind of in awe," Schindel said. "I was thinking, 'this is awesome.' I couldn't ask for a better way for it to play out."
The Bulldogs are off until they host the Adrian Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center fieldhouse.
"We took some notes away for every guy," Schindel said. "Every guy is going to get a little something they need to work on. As a team, we need to trust the process."
