Bulldogs Can't Catch a Break Against Cardinals

ERIE, Pa. – The Adrian College men's volleyball team lost its second match of the day, falling to St. John Fisher 3-1 in game two of the Penn State-Behrend triangular on Saturday, Feb. 9.


Final Score: St. John Fisher 3, Adrian 1 (25-16, 25-23, 18-25, 25-12)

St. John Fisher came out of the gates hot, hitting a match-high .419 in the first set on the way to a 25-16 set victory. The Cardinals capped the set off by winning seven of the last nine points after taking the lead in the early stages of the set.

The second and third sets went better for Adrian, as the Bulldogs won 23 points in set two in a 25-23 set loss and hit .125. The Bulldogs wouldn't go down in three sets again, and took the third set convincingly, 25-18. AC held St. John Fisher to hitting just .100 in the third set. The Bulldogs were up 24-14 before the Cardinals won four points in a row but gave the Black and Gold the final point they needed on a service error to cap the set.

It was a different story in the fourth set after it was tied 8-8. St. John Fisher got red-hot and wouldn't cool down, going on a 17-4 run to close out the set 25-12 and the match 3-1. The Cardinals hit .409 in the final set while the Bulldogs couldn't get things to fall their way, hitting -.111 for the set.


• Senior Michael Burkhardt led the team in kills for the second time today, with a match-high 10 kills in the second match. Freshman Tedrick Gula was right behind him with nine kills.

• Junior Joseph Campana racked up 23 assists in the match.

• Junior Kevin Curley led the defense with 12 digs and Burkhardt had his hands involved in five total blocks.


• Avery Terroso led St. John Fisher with eight kills.

• Paul Hackford was the primary setter for the Cardinals, finishing with 32 assists.

• Tyler Richards matched Curley's digs total, with 12 digs in the match.


The Bulldogs have three home games in a row next on their schedule, with two of them being conference matches. Trine comes to town on Tuesday, Feb. 12 for a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match followed by a double-header with MCVL foe Greenville and non-conference opponent Marantha Baptist on Friday, Feb. 15.
