ADRIAN, Mich.--Visiting Aquinas College used a quick start in doubles to earn a 9-0 non-conference win over Adrian College in men's tennis action at the Craft Tennis Complex on Friday. The Saints, who are out of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, win their first dual match of the season. The Bulldogs drop to 1-1.
Sophomore Nathan Waterbury led Adrian's efforts with a tough three-set loss to Kenny Garstecki at No. 5 singles. They split the first two sets by identical 6-2 scores, but Garstecki cruised in the third, 10-1.
Chase Peery led the Saints with wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with Will Buurma.
The temperature at the start of the match was well above normal for this time of year at 91 degrees.
Adrian has tweaked its schedule for the weekend. Instead of hosting NAIA-scholarship Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Sunday, the Bulldogs will now entertain NCAA Division II Lake Superior State that afternoon starting at 11 a.m. on their Craft home court.
