Bulldogs' Season Ends in MIAA First Round Shootout

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College fourth seed men's soccer team fell in a heartbreaking Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) First Round matchup, to the fifth-seeded Albion College Britons in shootout.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Albion 1, Adrian 1 (Albion 4-1 PK to advance)

Location: Adrian, Mich. (Docking Stadium – Adrian College)

Records: Albion 7-9-2, Adrian 11-6-2

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs came out of the gates looking for a win, posting their goal just 1:30 into the opening half. It was Macgregor Adams with their tally, helped along by Brendan Kozoil.

It took the bad guys less than 15 mintues to respond with a tally of their own. The contest would remain knotted at one for the remainder of regulation and through both 10-minute overtime periods.

In the shootout, Albion got to go first, beating Spencer Brown to make it 1-0. Brad Squires was the first to go for the Bulldogs, but his lower kick to the bottom right corner was just a little too predictable and was easily picked off by the Briton goalie.

The Brits were able to be the keeper once again, going up 2-0 on kicks, as Amer Karic's attempt to pull the goalie and send the ball the other was successful, but just missed the mark, ringing off the goal post.

For the third round of kicks, Albion was able to do it again. Unlike prior attempts, Adrian was finally able to find the back of the goal, as Dylan Mines successfully fooled the keeper with his shot.

In a must-miss situation to send the Bulldogs onto the seminfinals, Albion was just too clutch, making its fourth and final shootout shot.

In goal for his final collegiate contest, Brown was able to record four saves.
