AUSTIN, Texas – Adrian College men's soccer senior Tad Davis and women's soccer junior Caroline Fleming were named to the 2018 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American® Third Team from men's and women's soccer, respectively. The All-American® team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Davis is one of five Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men's soccer players named CoSIDA All-Americans®. This is Davis's first year being named an Academic All-American®. Davis was named to the All-District® team each of the last two years. He led the team in points, for the second year in a row, with 13 which ties his career high. Davis was also tied for the team lead in goals with five. In addition to being an Academic All-American® and two-time Academic All-District® player, Davis was named to the Second Team All-MIAA in each of the last three seasons, and was named the MIAA's offensive player of the week twice this season.
Fleming is the only player from the MIAA named an Academic All-American® and is one of 10 juniors on the women's side to be named an Academic All-American® She had a career year on the field, leading the Bulldogs in assists and points with nine and 31 respectively, and was tied for the team lead in goals with 11. She is now tied for fifth in program history for points in a season with her 31-point effort and is sixth on the all-time points list with 66 points in her career. Her 31 points and nine assists were also tops in the conference. Fleming earned Academic All-American® in her first year being named Academic All-District®. Fleming was also named to the First Team All-MIAA for the second year in a row this year.
Off the field, Davis has earned a 3.93 GPA as a business administration major while minoring in communications. Fleming is majoring in athletic training and has earned a 3.99 GPA. These are the first Academic All-American® honorees for both soccer programs. This is Adrian's fifth-straight academic year having an Academic All-American® athlete, the longest streak in school history.
Both athletes helped lead their respective teams to the MIAA Championship Matches this year. The men lost to Calvin for the second straight year, while the women knocked off Hope for the Bulldogs' first ever conference tournament championship and earned the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history.
