HOW IT HAPPENED
Kalamazoo got on the board first, scoring on a header from a corner kick in the 14th minute. Adrian was able to answer 20 minutes later, when sophomore Austin Andres scored on a header of his own in the 35th minute. Senior Zachary Roller hit the crossbar on a free kick attempt and Andres was there to clean up the rebound to tie the game at one.
It took over 25 minutes but the Bulldogs were able to add another one in the second half when senior Dolan Bonkowski put one past the keeper in the 71st minute. Freshman Brady Williams sent a ball in from the right wing that found Bonkowski in the box. Bonkowski had his first attempt saved but slid the rebound past the outstretched keeper to give the Black and Gold the lead.
The Hornets had a chance to tie the game with 15 seconds remaining when they were awarded a free kick from 20 yards. The kick sailed just outside the right post and the clock ran out giving the Bulldogs the victory in their conference opener.
• Andres and Bonkowski netted the goals for the Bulldogs, the second of the season for both of them.
• Roller was credited with an assist on the first goal, his second of the year.
• Junior goalkeeper Spencer Brown made three saves in the victory.
• Jack Didato scored the goal for Kalamazoo.
• Luke Kastran made four stops in net for the Hornets.
The Bulldogs return home to host Olivet in their conference home opener. The match is set to kickoff at 10 a.m. and is the first of a homecoming triple-header for Bulldog Athletics.
