ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Daniella du Toit as the first assistant coach for the Bulldogs men’s and women’s rowing programs.
Coach du Toit comes to Adrian after a decorated rowing career that has included success at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst as well as at the national level for her native Zimbabwe.
“The team at Adrian College has a lot of potential and I am excited to be part of its history. I look forward to helping the student-athletes grow as individuals and as a team,” said du Toit.
Adrian head coach Bart Thompson added, “During our national search it became clear to me that Daniella was the best fit for our program. She has been successful as a high school coach, a collegiate oarswoman, and an international oarswoman. She also demonstrated a strong understanding of the values that we hold in our program and a tremendous work ethic, both of which are crucial to her success and the success of our program moving forward.”
Du Toit grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe, where she began her rowing career in high school at Chisipite Boat Club. During that time she was the national champion in the single in both 2012 and 2013. She also was a four-time member of the Zimbabwe National Team (2012-2014, 2018) and placed ninth at the Youth Olympic Games (2014) and 18th at Junior World Championships (2013), both in the single. Du Toit also coached for her home club while she was at home.
Du Toit then came to the United States to row at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She was a member of the 1st varsity 8+ boat in each of her four years at UMass, helping the Minutewomen to a berth in the NCAA Championships in 2017. In her senior year, she was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Conference team.
Director of Athletics Michael Duffy commented, “We are glad to hear that Daniella has accepted our offer to join our rowing staff. Her experience as a rower on the collegiate and international level will be a huge asset to our program.”
Du Toit received bachelor’s degrees in Kinesiology and Nutrition from UMass.
