BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--Adrian College senior defenseman Braden Hellems (St. Thomas, Ontario / Trenton Golden Hawks, OJHL) was named on Thursday to the D3hockey.com Team of the Week, marking his third appearance this season (Dec. 12, Nov. 20) on this national team and he was the only member of the six-member squad not from the Eastern Seaboard. This comes on the heels after he made his Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week debut two days earlier.
The NCHA Defensive Player of the Week led the Bulldogs offense with four points, nine shots on goal and a plus-2 rating as Adrian clinched its fourth-straight conference South Division title. Hellems scored two power play goals, including the game-winning goal, against Lake Forest on Friday (6-3) and added another goal and an assist on the game-winning goal on Saturday against Aurora (3-1). On the season, he has a career-best eight goals and is one point shy of tying his personal best of 21, set as a 2018 junior. He leads the Bulldogs with six power play goals, which is second in the NCHA and tied for 11th in NCAA Division III.
Nationally ninth-ranked Adrian concludes the regular season on the road this weekend at Concordia-Wisconsin on Friday (7 p.m. EST) and Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday (6 p.m. EST) in a pair of NCHA contests.
