ADRIAN, Mich.--Seven Adrian College men's hockey alumni have been signed to professional contracts and will be preparing for training camps later this month. Here's a look at where the former Bulldogs will be heading, led by departed seniors Kyle Brothers, Dillon Kelley, Taylor McCloy and Mathew Thompson off the 2017-18 Adrian squad that captured its fourth-straight Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup title and made its sixth NCAA tournament appearance in a row:
Mathew Thompson, Re-signed with Indy Fuel (ECHL, Chicago Blackhawks affiliate) and attending Rockford Ice Hogs (AHL, Chicago Blackhawks affiliate) camp. The two-year captain racked up Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year and All-America accolades in his final collegiate senior year before scoring three goals and five assists for eight total points in 11 games to end Indy's season.
Taylor McCloy, Signed with Kansas City Mavericks (ECHL, New York Islanders affiliate). The alternate captain led the Bulldogs during his senior season with career highs in points (38) and goals (24) en route to All-America honors before joining the Norfolk Admirals (ECHL, Arizona Coyotes affiliate) on an Amateur Tryout (ATO) contract. He appeared in two contests for the Admirals.
Dillon Kelley, Signed with Fayetteville Marksmen (SPHL) and attending camp with Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL, Toronto Maple Leafs affiliate) on Professional Tryout (PTO) contract. Kelley appeared in 11 games for Adrian last season going 7-1-0, while surrendering only 1.20 goals per game and posting a save percentage of .949. He was a pro teammate of McCloy at Norfolk as well.
Kyle Brothers, HYS Herentals in Belgium of the Bene Ligue. Brothers wrapped up his Bulldog career with 52 goals (T-8th all-time), 99 assists (7th) and 151 total points (T-5th) in 110 contests (T-9th).
Chris Leone, Re-signed with Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL, Nashville Predators affiliate). Leone enjoyed pro career highs in games played (73), goals scored (5), assists (17) and total points (22) with the Cyclones last season. In three pro seasons with six teams, Leone--who skated for Adrian from 2013-16)--has compiled 16+37=53 scoring totals in 134 games.
Austin Hervey, PTO with Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL, Boston Bruins affiliate), also signed with Quad City Storm (SPHL, Independent). Last season, he posted 12 goals and 27 points in 59 contests for the Knoxville Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League. During the 2016-17, he notched two points in five appearances with the Indy Fuel. Hervey (2014-17) is the only Bulldog ever to be a semifinalist for the prestigious Hockey Humanitarian Award, presented by BNY Mellon Wealth Management, in 2017.
Josh Cousineau, Re-signed with Pensacola Ice Flyers (SPHL, Independent). The former Bulldog skater (2011-14) netted 13 assists among 22 points in 43 outings with the Ice Flyers a year ago. The 13th-leading scorer in school history with 115 points (36g+79a), Cousineau is the active leading scorer among pro Bulldogs with 43+61=104 totals in 220 career games with the Knoxville (2015-16) and Pensacola (2016-present).
All told, Bulldog Hockey has produced 18 players that have signed professional contracts to compete at the next level since the NCAA program was established for the 2007-08 campaign.
