ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men's hockey team remains No. 1 in the NCAA Division III West Region rankings, and while doing so also occupies the top spot in both national polls for another week.
The NCAA has released the second of four regional rankings in NCAA Division III Men's Hockey on Tuesday, and Adrian College is No. 1 in the West Region for the second-straight time. The Bulldogs are 23-4 overall against all Division III opponents, leading the nation in victories.
The regional rankings are used to determine both NCAA tournament bids and seedings by the Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship Committee. Additional rankings will follow on February 27 and March 5. The numbers used by the regional committees to generate these rankings are sometimes made available to the public.
In the West, Adrian is followed by St. Norbert, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Marian (Wis.) and Ausburg, which makes its season debut in the regional rankings. In the East, Salve Regina overtakes Oswego State--which drops to fourth--for the top spot, followed by University of New England and Hobart in a second-place tie, and then Trinity (Conn.) in fifth.
In the national polls scene, Adrian is No. 1 by Minneapolis-based U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) and Bloomington, Minn.-based D3hockey.com. The Bulldogs are first in USCHO's national rankings for the fifth consecutive week, receiving one more first-place vote (18 total) than they did the previous poll and 297 points. According to a D3hockey.com vote of Sports Information Directors and media members nationwide, Adrian repeated season highs of 297 points and 18 votes for first place for the fourth consecutive time. Adrian has set a school record for consecutive weeks No. 1 by USCHO (besting four weeks from Jan. 6-27, 2014) and ties its D3hockey No. 1 consecutive rankings record.
The No. 1 overall seed in the 2018 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Playoffs after capturing the Peters Cup for the fourth-straight year as the regular season champion, Adrian hosts Lake Forest College in the conference semifinals at 2:05 p.m. Saturday in a 1-3 seed matchup.
