DULUTH, Minn.--Adrian College forward Ryan Cusin (Westland, Mich./Aston Rebels, NAHL) is the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The sophomore earns the NCHA's weekly award for the first time and he is the third member of the Adrian men's hockey team to be honored this season, joining Mathew Thompson (offensive) and Kevin Entmaa (defensive) both on Jan. 7.
Cusin earned the honors after leading the Bulldogs to their fourth-straight Peters Cup trophy by claiming the regular-season title with victories over Milwaukee School of Engineering (6-0 on Friday) and Concordia Wisconsin. He started the weekend with an assist as Adrian blanked the Raiders by six goals and then topped it with a brilliant three-goal outing in the three-point victory over the Falcons in the season finale. He recorded eight shots in the two games and the hat trick marked the first of his career.
In his first season with the Bulldogs after transferring from fellow NCAA Division III program UMASS-Boston at the end of his freshman year, Cusin has scored eight goals and 21 points for seventh offensively on the AC squad. He leads all Bulldog sophomores in goal-scoring.
The NCAA top-ranked and No. 1 overall seed Bulldogs will be hosting MSOE on Friday (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday (3:05 p.m.) for the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals at Arrington Ice Arena.
Reserved seats in the arena cost $10 each and will be sold online on ETIX only. Standing-room-only (SRO) will be for $5 on gameday, with no advanced sales online, and cash-only accepted. SRO sales start on Friday at 5:30 p.m., and fans may enter the rink at 6 p.m. On Saturday, SRO sales begin at 1:30 p.m. with rink entry at 2 p.m. Students are free with valid college ID.
Adrian (21-4 overall) finished with a 17-1 South Division record for 34 points. The Bulldogs' 13-game winning streak is currently the longest in the nation, men's or women's, all NCAA Divisions. The MSOE Raiders are 11-12-2 overall and finished in third place in the NCHA South with 15 points. The Bulldogs twice beat MSOE during the regular season, winning 3-1 on Jan. 19 in Milwaukee, Wis., and 6-0 last Friday in Adrian.
