USA Hockey NTDP Under-18 Team Comes Back to Down Adrian, 8-3

ADRIAN, Mich.--Logan Cockerill scored a hat-trick and added an assist, and the U.S. Under-18s went 4-for-7 on the power play, to earn a come-from-behind 8-3 exhibition victory over host Adrian College on Saturday.

= Sophomore Trevor Boyd led the Bulldogs with a goal and an assist.

= Classmate Connor Armour chipped in two assists.

= Sophomore Kevin Entmaa (16 saves) and junior Dillon Kelley (8) both played half the game in goal.

= Senior Austin Hervey, freshman Vincent Paquette and Boyd each recorded a team-high four shots.

= Cockerill finished with four points to lead all scorers.

= Graham Slaggert and Evan Barratt each had two assists.

= Goalie Adam Scheel got the win after making 25 saves.

= Things started well enough for the Bulldogs, who jumped out to a 2-0 advantage with 11 minutes and 53 seconds left in the opening period. Boyd took a feed from Armour and beat Scheel 2:27 in, and Boyd this time passed to Paquette who gave Adrian a two-goal lead at 8:07.

= The US U-18s got on the scoreboard 2:17 after Paquette's goal with Cockerill's first of three on the night. Then 63 seconds later, Grant Mismash made it 2-2 to wrap up the first period scoring.

= In the second, the visitors scored three goals--Cockerill, Randy Hernandez and Brady Tkachuk--in a 4:26 span to forge a 5-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

= The Adrian power-play unit closed the gap to 5-3 on a tally off the stick of sophomore defenseman Cory Dunn on assists from Armour and classmate Bryan Yim at 15:26.

= The visitors, however, got a PP marker back to restore the three-goal advantage as David Farrance scored with 1:23 to go in the middle stanza.

= Team USA held a slim 32-28 edge in shots on goal.

= In the third period, Adrian had a golden opportunity to further put a dent into the deficit when Tyler Inamoto was whistled for a five-minute major penalty for kneeing. But the Bulldogs--one of the best power-play units in the NCAA Division III--were unable to capitalize.

= The U18s were able to ice the win by scoring two goals late before the final horn.

= The USA Hockey National Team Development Program was started in 1996 by USA Hockey as a way to identify elite ice hockey players in the country under the age of 18, and centralize their training. It includes Under-18 and Under-17 teams. 

= Per NCAA rules, results and statistics from this game do not count on Adrian's historical record. 

= The NTDP U-18 team won its fourth in a row in the series to a take a 5-3 all-time lead against Adrian.

= The 11 goals combined matches the most since the Bulldogs prevailed 6-5 in overtime in their first-ever meeting on Jan. 22, 2008.

= Fifty-nine alumni dotted National Hockey League rosters on opening day this fall. All but three of the current NTDP members have verbally committed to Division I programs.

= Adrian concludes its five-game homestand during Thanksgiving weekend against Wisconsin-Stevens Point (Saturday, Nov. 26 at 7:05 p.m.) and St. Thomas-Minn. (Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2:05 p.m.). The Bulldogs are officially 2-0 on the season-long stretch of home dates.
