BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--For the fifth time this season, Adrian College senior defenseman Chris Leone (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, NAHL) has been named to the D3hockey.com Men's Team of the Week, the website announced on Tuesday by the website.
The alternate captain also was recognized for the national award on Nov. 10 and 17, Dec. 8, and Jan. 26.
Leone led all Adrian scorers with four points and a plus-4 rating to help the Bulldogs to a sweep of nationally-ranked St. Scholastica in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Semifinals, 4-2 and 4-2. He had two assists in the opener and then a power-play goal and an assist in the second contest.
This season, Leone has established career highs in goals (11), assists (16) and total points (27). The business management major is tied for first in the nation with five game-winning goals and ranks second nationally among blueliners in both goals and points.
The nationally-ranked Bulldogs (No. 2 USCHO, No. 2 D3hockey) are back in action on Saturday (7:05 p.m.) for the Harris Cup Finals against No. 1 St. Norbert at Arrington Ice Arena. Adrian is the top seed and defending conference champions; the Green Knights are seeded second.
In other Adrian men's hockey news, the Bulldogs remain in second place in the third NCAA Division III West Region rankings behind St. Norbert. Used to determine both NCAA tournament bids and seedings, this week's rankings are the last of three sets that will be released to the public as the final rankings generated on March 6 are not released.
