APPLETON, Wis. – The men's hockey team jumped all over the Lawrence Vikings in the first period on Saturday and led 5-0 after 20 minutes. Adrian outshot Lawrence, 19-8, in the first stanza and scored all five goals at even strength.
Micki Mihailovich got the Bulldogs on the board at 1:48 for his third of the season from Jeremy Olinyk. The Bulldogs made it 2-0 5:01 later as Duston Hebebrand scored the game-winning goal with assists from Grant Telfer and Kevin Balas. It was the fifth goal scored against Lawrence in his career. Mathew Thompson wasted little time making it 3-0 at 7:28 with his 14th of the season from Josh Ranalli and Kyle Brothers. Daniel Lisi scored the team's fourth goal which was his second of the season from Chris Leone and Pat George. Ryan Lowe finished the first period at 19:29 with his fifth of the year from Brett Pinkerton and George.
Steve Hughes broke the shutout at 8:07 of the second for the Vikings from Ryan Robertson. Lawrence narrowed the gap in shots for the second as Adrian had a 15-12 edge. Adrian got back into the scoring column in the third as Brothers scored his first of two power play goals at 8:31 from Ranalli and Thompson. Brothers then scored his 19th of the campaign at 15:05 from Olinyk and Ranalli.
Adrian finished 2-for-8 on the power play while Lawrence went 0-for-6 and finished 0-for-10 on the weekend. Adrian did have 50 penalty minutes in the contest as tempers flared in the second and carried over into the third. The Bulldogs have 29 points in the NCHA and clinched at least a share of the regular season title after Lake Forest's 2-0 win over MSOE tonight. The Bulldogs and Foresters will play head-to-head next weekend in Lake Forest, Illinois. Adrian needs just one point in two games to secure the regular season outright and secure home ice for the Harris Cup playoff tournament.
