RIVER FALLS, Wis. – It was a postseason feel on Saturday night (Jan. 10) as the Adrian College and UW-River Falls men's hockey teams entertained Hunt Arena in a 1-1 tie. The Bulldogs (11-2-2) entered this week ranked No. 9 and held their own on the road against the No. 3 squad (13-1-1). The Falcons dropped their first game of the season last night and Adrian was ready for a team that was looking to bounce back.
The Bulldogs ended with a 31-29 edge in shots on goal. Adrian recorded 14 of those shots in the third period. The Falcons had exactly nine shots in each of the three periods and recorded two shots on net in overtime. The second period proved to be the most stressful for the visitors as they killed off a 5-on-3 for nearly two minutes. Adrian received their only two power play chances in the third period.
Austin Hervey gave Adrian a 1-0 lead at the 17:22 mark of the first period. His third of the season was assisted by Jake Flegel and Micki Mihailovich. UW-River Falls got the equalizer at the 2:21 mark of the third period as Mitch Kontny scored his fifth of the season from Jeff Bergh and Blake Huppert.
Scott Shackell made 28 saves after sitting out yesterday's contest for Adrian. His counterpart Tanner Milliron made 30 saves for UW-River Falls. Austin Rust, Michael Hoy, Josh Ranalli, Ryan Gieseler and Kyle Brothers each had three shots on goal for Adrian.
