ADRIAN-Mich.--The Adrian College ACHA Division 2 men’s hockey team completed a busy weekend on Sunday after splitting a pair of games with a 3-2 win Saturday night over the Davenport Panthers in overtime in Grand Rapids and then a 4-1 loss to Trine University on Sunday at Arrington Ice Arena.
In Saturday night’s win, the Bulldogs scored the game’s first two goals in the opening period as Dalton Anderson and Hayden Winch both scored and it appeared that Adrian would take a 2-0 lead to the locker room at intermission, but Kyle McConnell cut the lead in half scoring with just ten seconds remaining to make the score 2-1.
Neither team could score in period number two, as Adrian remained in the lead until Marc Rotondo scored the equalizer with 11:49 remaining in regulation.
It did not take the Bulldogs long to end the suspense, however, as Jack Clary set up Anderson for his second goal of the game for the overtime winner.
Anderson also had an assist on the goal by Winch as did Adrien Sebag. Drake Koegel picked up the win in goal for Adrian, recording 26 saves.
In Sunday’s loss to Trine, the Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 as the Thunder’s Spencer Johnson scored in each of the first two periods. The Bulldogs fought back to make the score 2-1 after forty minutes on a goal by Cleary with assists from Brandon McLean and Joseph Gibbs.
But the Bulldogs comeback effort ended there, as the Bulldogs were shutout in the third period and surrendered a pair of goals in the final stanza to make the final score 4-1.
The Bulldogs record now stands at 4-3 and will see their next action on Friday when they host Michigan State at Arrington Ice Arena at 3 p.m.
