ACHA Division 2 Men's Hockey Routs Detroit Fighting Irish in Aaron Bain Coaching Debut

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2 men's hockey team took the ice for the first time on Thursday night and came away with an impressive 9-0 exhibition win over the Detroit Fighting Irish Junior-A of the U.S. Premier Hockey League.

Adrian was led by freshman Ondrej Tomek’s impressive debut, as the Praha, Czech Republic native completed a hat trick in his first appearance in a Bulldog uniform. Tomek scored the game’s first two goals back to back in the game’s first ten minutes, as part of a four goal Bulldog first period which also saw Bulldog markers from junior Brandon McLean and freshman Nick Mooney.

Adrian scored four more times in period number two, with goals from junior Phillip Grippi, freshmen Hayden Winch, Justin Sessions and a third goal from Tomek.

Adrian’s lone goal in the third period was registered by freshman Brent Siewertsen to make the final score 9-0. Adrian’s Adrien Sebeg added two assists on the evening for the Bulldogs.

Senior goaltender Drake Koegel held the Fighting Irish scoreless through the first forty minutes before giving way to freshman Khegan Harvery, as Detroit could must just eight shots on goals. Adrian peppered Detroit goaltenders Dean Bucholtz and Bo French with 52 shots on goal.

The Bulldogs will open the regular season on Thursday, October 5, when the face off against the University of Toledo at Arrington Ice Arena at 7:15 p.m.
