HOLLAND, Mich.--The Adrian College football team wrapped up its 2019 slate with a 42-7 road defeat at the hands of Hope, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion, on Saturday afternoon.

= Junior Henry Wilson tied for the game lead with five receptions, including the Bulldogs' lone touchdown, with 68 yards.
= Sophomore Steven Moses led all student-athletes with a career-best 10 solo tackles, followed by freshman Dwight Mann with eight, classmate Blake Masterman with seven and senior Robert Ginther with seven total (six solo).
= Junior Donald Scott caught four passes for 79 yards.
= Sophomore Jack Wurzer threw for 235 yards on 18 of 32 pass attempts.
= Kenyea Houston rushed 23 times for 194 yards and two TDs, and Connor Mellon added 10 for 92 with two scores.
= Quarterback Mason Opple generated 183 yards of total offense on 10-for-17 passing for 136 yards (1 TD) and 13 rushes for 47 yards (1 TD).
= Conner Nemmers led the Dutchmen defense with nine solo stops while Luke Beckhusen and Jeremiah Purnell had five solo tackles apiece.
= Receiver Christian Bos had game highs of five receptions and 82 yards to go with a TD.
HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian hung around with Hope--which never trailed--for the first half down only 21-0, but the Flying Dutchmen added another 21 points in the second half while holding the Bulldogs to a TD.
= Houston broke a scoreless tie on a 4-yard TD run with 2 minutes and 59 seconds remaining in the first quarter, capping a 10-play, 60-yard drive in 4:43 time of possession.
= Hope padded the lead with two scores 3 minutes apart in the second quarter on an Opple 2-yard run and then he completed a 46-yard pass to Bos.
= Trailing 28-0, Adrian spoiled the shutout at the 9:16 mark of the third quarter when Wilson caught a 20-yard TD pass from Wurzer that finished off a five-play drive over 82 yards.
= Mellon rounded out the scoring with TD runs (4, 14) later in the quarter.
= The fourth quarter went scoreless.
= Hope also had statistical advantages in time of possession (36;13-23:47), first downs (28-18), 3rd-down conversions (81%, 13 of 16;. 18%, 2 of 11), total offense (531-343), rushing yards (375-98), return yards (109-41) and takeaways (2-0).
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Hope leads the all-time series 52-25-1. Adrian, however, is 7-5 in the last 12 meetings.
= Today was Senior Day for the Flying Dutchmen, who will gain the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Football Championship.
= Wurzer ends the regular season atop the MIAA passing yards chart with 2,450, which is a school record. He also leads the conference with 182 completions and 303 attempts.
= Opple is first in the MIAA with 16 rushing TDs and he is fourth with 145.9 passing yards per game.
= Like Wurzer, Wilson tops the conference in receiving yards average (89.8) and yards per catch (22.4) while ranking second with eight TD receptions.
= Sophomore defensive back Brandon Kwiatkowski, who had four solos and five total tackles today, leads Adrian with career highs of 41 tackles and 64 total for 10th and 11th, respectively, in the MIAA.
= Moses concluded the season as the Bulldogs leader with 45 tackles among 60 total--both personal records.
= With its season complete, Adrian loses just 11 seniors and returns a talented nucleus in 2020.
