BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--For the third time in his outstanding football career at Adrian College, senior running back Emmanuel Stewart (St. Petersburg, Fla. / Gibbs High School) has been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week, it was announced late Monday. Stewart also made the website's national team on Oct. 20, 2015, and Oct. 21, 2014.
Stewart reset his own school record with 283 yards on 30 carries in a last-second, heartbreaking 49-42 loss to Albion. He scored on touchdown runs of 2, 6, 82 and 53 yards. The 283 yards rushing are sixth-best in the nation this season, and the 82-yard score is the third-longest run from scrimmage in team history. He originally set the Bulldogs' single-game rushing record of 281 yards (24 carries) on Oct 18, 2014, also against Albion.
Currently, Stewart ranks second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with 148.1 rushing yards per game and 12 touchdowns. Those figures are ninth and eighth, respectively, in NCAA Division III.
Against Finlandia on Saturday (1 p.m.), Stewart has the chance to become the 19th student-athlete in NCAA Division III history to rush for 5,000 yards. The nation's second active career leader has 4,898 yards--needing 102 versus the Lions to cross that threshold. He also owns AC all-time records for points scored and all-purpose yards.
Adrian Football holds the MIAA record with 37 D3football TOW honorees. Hope junior quarterback Mason Opple gave the conference two national selections this week.
