Bulldogs' Comeback Attempt Against Scots Falls Short on the Hardwood

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team dropped an exciting and close game to Alma College 74-69 at home on Saturday, Jan. 19 as part of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Adrian got the lead early and controlled the rest of the half. The Bulldogs' largest lead of the game came just after the halfway mark of the first half when AC was up by nine, 25-16. The Black and Gold were shooting well from deep in the first 20 minutes, with sophomore guards Jordan Harris and Sam Colbert each connecting three times from beyond the arc. Harris led the Bulldogs with 13 points at the break while Colbert was right behind him with 11. Adrian would go into halftime holding onto a six-point, 32-26 lead.

The Scots kept clawing away at Adrian's lead and tied the game up at 40 with 14 minutes remaining. A pair of free throws gave Alma the lead on the next possession and the Scots would never trail in the game again. AC fought to tie the game at 63 with 2:17 remaining and only trailed by one with 28 seconds remaining, but could not complete the comeback to snap the Bulldogs' losing streak, falling 74-69. Colbert and Harris each scored 12 in the second half, with all 12 of Colbert's points coming from deep balls.

Both teams shot the ball often and well from deep, with Adrian shooting 42.9% from three-point land and Alma connecting at a 40% rate. The Scots were shooting better than the Bulldogs overall, going 49.1% from the floor to Adrian's 39.7%. Alma's bench also played a huge role in the game, scoring 30 points while the Black and Gold only had two points from the bench.


• Harris and Colbert led the team in scoring, with Harris dropping 25 and Colbert scoring 23.

• Harris also led the Bulldogs in assists, picking up six.

• Colbert and junior forwards Jeremy Kalonji and Ke'Shaun Wyatt-Morris all pulled down seven rebounds each to tie for the team lead.


• Steven Harvey scored 19 points from the bench to lead Alma.

• Ryan Stevens dished out 10 assists to go along with his 15 points for a double-double.

• Brandon Rake grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Scots.


The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Kalamazoo. The game is scheduled to tip at 8 p.m. and marks the halfway point of the conference season as each team will have played every other team in the MIAA once after Wednesday.
