Hot Start Flames Out as Comets Comeback Against Bulldogs

OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team lost a road game to Olivet, 75-54 on Wednesday, Jan. 16 as part of play in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.


Final Score: Olivet 75, Adrian 54

Records: Adrian 3-13 (0-5 MIAA), Olivet 8-8 (4-1 MIAA)


Adrian jumped out to a quick lead, up 14-10 eight minutes into the game. The Bulldogs then went on a 10-3 run to open an 11-point, 24-13 lead with 5:46 remaining. Olivet then got hot and went 15-4 run to close out the first half with a 38-29 lead. The Comets shot an impressive 60% in the first half to AC's 34.5%. Junior forward Jeremy Kalonji  stayed hot, leading the team in the first half with 11 points and four rebounds.

Olivet extended its lead in the second half, never leading by less than nine points on the way to a 75-54 victory. The Comets' defense was stingy in the second half, holding the Black and Gold to just a 28.6% in the second half. Kalonji poured in 15 more in the second half, including making all six of the team's free throws in the final 20 minutes.


• Kalonji led the team in points for the second straight game, dropping 26 against the Comets tonight. He also led Adrian in rebounds with 7.

• Sophomore Jordan Harris was the only other Bulldog with double-digit points, with 12. He also led the team with five assists.


• Tracy Edmond and Trevor Manuel each had 25 points to lead the Comets.

• Manuel also led Olivet in rebounds, grabbing nine in the contest.


The Bulldogs return home this weekend to host Alma on Saturday, Jan. 19. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
