FREELAND, Mich.--Adrian College senior right-hander Tommy Parsons (New Albany, Ohio) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Sunday, the conference office announced on Monday.
Parsons tied the program record for career victories as nationally-ranked Adrian College turned back No. 14 Birmingham-Southern College, 7-4, in non-conference action on Thursday evening. In his season debut, he allowed one run on seven hits--six were singles--and a walk while striking out five batters in seven innings of work. After giving up his lone run against on four hits in the second inning, Parsons finished strong by retiring 17 of the last 21 batters he faced.
Parsons has won his last 13 decisions to increase his career mark to 30-4. The business management major matched Eric Schmidt (30-5, 2012-15) for the most victories in school history.
This marks Parsons' eighth career MIAA pitcher of the week citation, including four as a junior and three during his sophomore season.
Adrian (3-2 overall) will be idle this week to prepare for another trip down South--this time traveling to Port Charlotte, Fla., for the Snowbird Collegiate Baseball Classic from Friday, March 16 to Sunday, March 18. The Bulldogs will play Keystone, Denison and North Central-Ill.
