BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--Adrian College senior right-handed pitcher Tommy Parsons has been named to the D3baseball.com Preseason All-America Team as an honorable mention selection, the website announced last Wednesday. This marks Parsons' second straight appearance on the site's preseason list, as he was named to its All-America Second Team prior to the 2017 season.
In addition, Parsons was selected to the NCAA Division III Players to Watch list by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the publication's de facto preseason All-America team, last month.
The New Albany [Ohio] High School product won his second consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year award in 2017 after leading the conference with a 9-1 won-lost record and 79 strikeouts. The Bulldogs' ace finished the year overall with a 12-1 record, 101 strikeouts, and a 2.23 earned-run average in 93.0 innings of work. He claimed NCAA statistical titles last season with 12 victories and a 14.43 strikeout-to-walk ratio--both school records, and at one point during the season went 44-1/3 innings without issuing a walk for what's believed to be a NCAA Division III all-time record. A business management major, Parsons received postseason accolades from the American Baseball Coaches' Association (All-America Division III Third Team) and D3baseball.com (All-America Third Team) last spring. He also was a 2017 preseason All-America choice by D3baseball.com.
An owner of nine school benchmarks already, Parsons enters his fourth and final year for the Bulldogs with the chance to etch his name atop the team record books in lowest ERA (2nd, 2.41), fewest walks allowed per 9 innings (2nd, 1.14), most wins (2nd, 29) and most shutouts (3rd, 5).
Parsons and the rest of the squad will begin preseason workouts later this month and take the field for their season opener on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Huntingdon College, with a matchup against Birmingham-Southern College following the very next day (March 1).
