ADRIAN, Mich. – It was a good day for the Adrian College men's and women's track & field teams as they both finished third at the MIAA Jamboree at the Adrian College Track & Field Complex.
The MIAA Jamboree counts for 50 percent of the total for crowning the MIAA Track & Field Champions with the other 50 coming from the MIAA Field Day which will take place May 5-6 at Olivet College.
The Adrian men's team finished in third place with 792 points. Hope won with 887.5 points while Calvin finishing second with 842.5. The first win of the day for the men came in the 4x100m relay. The team of Alex Cameron (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Edward), Garrett Waidelch (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold), Chad Allemon (Casco, Mich./Marine City) and Zach Smith (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky Central Catholic) won in a time of 42.29, just .38 second off the MIAA record. Allemon also won the 400m in a time of 50.14 while Aaron Wielfaert (Britton, Mich./Britton-Macon) placed third in the race with a time of 50.82. Cameron placed fourth in the 200m with Allemon finishing in fifth with times of 23.46 and 23.60 respectively. The men's 4x400 team placed second with a time of 3:24.86.
In the throwing events, Derek Stoll (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) turned in several top performances for the Bulldogs. Stoll won the Discus and the Shot Put with distances of 44.42m and 15.46m. Stoll also placed second in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 44.75m. Jacob Mehr (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) had solid performances, placing second in the Discus with a throw of 42.25m and third in the Shot with a distance of 14.14m. Colby Aures (Marine City, Mich./Marine City) finished fourth in the Javelin with a throw of 47.56m
In the jumping events, Brad Billings (Redford, Mich./Redford Union) won the Pole Vault clearing a height of 4.11m. Aures also cleared the 4.11m height but finished third. Wielfaert placed second in the high jump clearing a height of 2.00m with Adam Gilbertson (Sault St. Marie, Mich./Sault Area) placed fourth in the even with a leap of 1.85m. Marshawn Selby (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) finished fourth in the Triple Jump while Chris Kimball (Brooklyn, Mich./Columbia Central) finished fifth with leaps of 12.46m and 12.40m respectively. Kimball also finished fifth in the Long Jump with a distance of 6.37m.
The women's team finished third with 647.50 points. Calvin College won with 996 points while Hope finished second with 933.50.
Senneca Scott (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) got the Bulldogs on the board first for the women winning the 110m hurdles in a time of 16.07. Ashton Wysong (Clare, Mich./Clare) finished fifth in the event with a time of 17.03. Kelsea Sellers (Montpelier, Ohio/North Central) followed up with a win of her own in the 100m dash with a time of 12.94, edging out the second place finisher by three hundredths of a second. Sellers had another solid performance in the 200m placing second with a time of 28.31 just missing a gold medal by three tenths of a second. Alicia Fowler (China, Mich./St. Clair) turned in two solid performances finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:23.34 and fifth in the 1500m finishing with a time of 4:54.79. Heather Strong (Ithaca, Mich./Fulton-Middleton) finished fifth in the 5000m Steeplechase completing the course in a time of 12:14.88. The 4x400m relay team placed second with a time of 4:11.64 while the 4x100m relay finished in third place with a time of 51.43.
Megan Meier (Plainwell, Mich./Allegan) had an outstanding day in the throwing events. Meier won the Hammer Throw with a toss of 40.27m and finished second in the Shot Put with a distance of 11.89m. Brianna Davis (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) finished just behind Meier in the Hammer placing third with a throw of 38.16m. Haley Eubank (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) placed fifth in the Shot with a toss of 10.51m.
The Track team will travel to Eastern Michigan on April 22 and 23.
