ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College nationally-ranked American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 men's hockey program is proud to announce the 2019-20 roster.
The team recently completed its tryout camp which resulted in great success in determining the season roster. Incoming players include Eric Schuch (Holland, Mich. / Soo Thunderbirds NOJHL), Sheldon Nolan (Richmond Hill, Ontario / Newmarket Hurricanes OJHL), Connor Smith (Pinckney, Mich. / Odessa Jackalopes NAHL), Steven Cope (White Lake, Mich. / Cochrane Crunch NOJHL), Dakota Bohn (Saginaw, Mich. / Chatham Maroons GOJHL), Dylan Kent (Beaumont, Alberta / Kelowna Chiefs KIJHL), Sam Spaedt (Saginaw, Mich. / Waterloo Siskins GOJHL), Filip Kafka (Prague, Czech Republic / Kingsville Kings GMJHL), Alec Daman (Chelsea, Mich. / Thief River Falls Norskies SIJHL), and Henrik Overvall (Gagnef, Sweden / Oklahoma City Jr Blazers WSHL).
The 10 incoming players join 19 returners, such as ACHA All-Americans Marcus Rose and Jordan Oshowy. The Bulldogs finished last year with a 33-3 record, winning a sweep of the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League regular-season and playoff championships.
The 29-man roster is comprised of seven seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores and 10 freshmen. As expected, it features a very diverse group with student-athletes from all over the world, including the state of Michigan (13), Canadian provinces of Ontario (6), Alberta (5), British Columbia (1), Quebec (1) and other countries Czech Republic (2), Sweden (1).
"I am very happy with our final roster," said Bulldogs coach Gary Astalos, who begins his fourth season at the helm with a 100-7 school record and 2018 ACHA National Championship to his credit. "It's very exciting to bring back the core from last year's group, while also adding some very good freshmen. We are very excited to start the season and I look forward to seeing our team prepare for the season opener in a few short weeks."
The Bulldogs have also announced that Domenic Moore, a senior, Dan Stone, a junior, and classmate Austin Kuhn have been selected assistant captains who will join senior team captain Rainer Glimpel to lead the team for the 2019-20 season. "While we have a very tight-knit locker room and a group full of leaders; I know these four young men will do a good job of leading the way for us," stated Astalos.
The Bulldogs will open the regular season Thursday, October 3rd, for a 7 p.m. puckdrop against Western Michigan University at Arrington Ice Arena. Fans, however, can get a glimpse of the new team on Thursday, Sept. 26., for an exhibition game at home against Grand Valley State University.
