ACHA Division 1 Men's Hockey Earn Sweep of No. 9-Ranked Robert Morris with 5-4 Triumph

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team continued its winning ways on Saturday, as the Bulldogs stopped the ninth-ranked Robert Morris (Illinois) Eagles for a second straight day with a 5-4 win at Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs, who are ranked third in the nation, sweep the series and remain unbeaten with a 6-0 record.

Penalties played a large role in this contest, as Adrian capitalized with four power play goals and a shorthanded tally for its five goals. Robert Morris would score just one even strength goal with three power play goals on the afternoon.

Adrian took command early, scoring the game's first three goals. Brad Kobryn started the scoring with the first of his two goals on the afternoon, putting Adrian on the board just five minutes into the contest with the only goal of the first period.

The two teams each scored twice in the second period, as Adrian got a power play goal from Marcus Rose and Dan Stone scored on a breakaway shorthanded effort to put the Bulldogs on top 3-0.

Robert Morris would counter, however, as Dan Doyle would score before Bulldog penalty would expire and Doyle capitalized on the power play again with one minute to play in the period to leave Adrian clinging to a 3-2 advantage at the second intermission.

With the Eagles Dylan Morris already sitting in the penalty box, the Bulldogs caught a break when Bo Borowski picked up a holding penalty to give the Bulldogs a five on three advantage, in which Kobryn took just eight seconds to score his second goal on an assist from Marcel Kottek.

Robert Morris would not go away, however, as they battled back with a power play goal from Nathan Chasteen before Alex Anderson tied the game with the contest's only even strength marker.

Overtime seemed to be looming on the horizon, but after the Eagles Cody Maulsby was whistled for a slashing call, Domenic Moore collected the game winner on a pass from Justin Fisher with 1:35 to play in the game.

Adrian outshot the Eagles 45-40 on the afternoon, as Michael Barrett picked up his second win of the season with 36 saves.

The loss drops the Eagles record to 5-3, while Adrian's win gives the Bulldogs a six-game winning streak heading into next weekend's two-game series with rival Davenport, which begins on Thursday evening at Arrington starting at 7:15. Game two of that series will swing to Grand Rapids on Friday night.
