ADRIAN, Mich.—American Collegiate Hockey Association Women's Division I superpowers collide this weekend when Adrian College hosts Miami University (Ohio) for a two-game series of nationally-ranked top-5 teams at the Arrington Ice Arena.
The Bulldogs and Red Hawks encourage you to come out and support some great hockey action, beginning on Saturday at 7 p.m. and concluding on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Last season, Miami finished atop the coaches poll before reaching the national title game while Adrian was ranked No. 6. This season, the Red Hawks and Bulldogs are Nos. 1 and 3, respectively.
The Bulldogs have started the 2015-16 campaign strong with three wins and a lone overtime loss, outscoring the opposition 16-8. Adrian has been led this season by freshman forward Nicole Paradis, who has amassed five goals and two assists in the first four games. Also playing strong for the Bulldogs is junior forward Alicia Tait who has two goals and three assists.
The Red Hawks are also having a strong start having won two games and lost none. They are led by senior forward Izzy Smith who has scored two goals so far. Also playing strong are junior forward Rachael Booth and senior defender Jessie Gould both of whom have complied three assists.
The Bulldogs and Red Hawks played twice in 2014-15, both at Miami's home rink Goggin Ice Arena. In the first meeting, the teams were evenly matched throughout regulation and in overtime with a final score of 1-1. The Bulldogs' lone goal was scored by then-junior forward Jacqueline Lough, and then-senior goalie Emily Michelin turned aside 38 of 39 shots.
In the second, Adrian came up short as Red Hawks then-senior forward Hayley Williams had a hat trick in the second period to lead Miami to a 5-2 victory. In the loss, then-junior forwards Alicia Tait and Jessie Rushing scored goals for the Bulldogs.
