ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's ACHA hockey team scored three unanswered goals on the way to their first victory of the season as they downed California University (Pa.) 3-1 on Saturday night at Arrington Ice Arena.
Adrian scored the game's first goal despite being short-handed as Becca Napoli (Pittsburgh, Pa.) slapped one by Lady Vulcan goaltender Maria Sciacca with assists from Morgan Poole (Ottawa, Ont.) and Amanda Antos (Crest Hill, Ill.).
Adrian took command of the game in the second period with a pair of goals, first an even strength marker by Nichole Laflamme (White Lake, Mich.) from Valerie Twigg (Adrian, Mich.) and then a power play effort by Poole from Jenna Jubinville (Essex, Ont.) and Paige Fuoco (Corunna, Ont.).
The Lady Vulcans were able to avoid the shutout with a third-period goal from Hayley Dhondt. The Bulldog defense was still very much in control, holding the Lady Vulcans to just nine shots on the evening, while the Bulldogs were able to fire 44 shots at the California net.
The two squads will conclude their two-game set on Sunday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena with face-off slated for 2:00 p.m.
