EAST LANSING, Mich.--The Adrian College equestrian program trotted into the new calendar year with competition at the Michigan State University Stock Show held at the MSU Pavilion on Sunday.

As a team, Adrian tied for Reserve Champion High Point Team for the afternoon show as the second-highest placing team that performed--the first time in school history that the Bulldogs have achieved this ranking.

Two shows were held: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each show was judged by a different judge. In addition, each of individual shows in the horsemanship class, but after qualification for the highest division of showing, you are eligible to enter the reining class as well.

Here are some individual highlights of each Adrian rider:

Junior Ariel Anderson earned two fifth-place awards with consistent rides.

Classmate Christina Bitson placed fourth in the morning, but did not place in the afternoon show despite a great ride on a difficult horse.

Rachel Kanaziz, a junior, placed first in the horsemanship class and second in the reining class, which earned her the award of Champion High Point Rider for the morning show. In the afternoon, she placed first in the horsemanship class and third in the reining class, earning Reserve Champion High Point Rider Award. This also was a milestone for AC Equestrian that a rider has ever earned either award.

Freshman Morgan Langworthy placed third and fifth in the events, looking for an opportunity to go to regional competition if she continues to progress in her next show.

Junior Antonina Marano had good rides but was unable to earn a placing at either show.

Senior Gabbi Novak placed sixth and second on the day, setting her up for a great shot at qualifying for Regionals at the next show at the end of the month. (Ferris State Stock Show at Lansing, Mich., at the Chef Center on Saturday, Jan. 28.)

Junior Morgan Petriko placed sixth and fifth in her first stock seat show of the season.

Classmate Kelsey Suiter placed fifth and second--just shy of regional qualification.

Adrian's next action will be on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 21-22, for the University of Michigan Hunt Seat Show at Willowbrook Farms in Plymouth. Competition is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. both days.
