ADRIAN, Mich.--For several hours on Saturday, scores of Adrian College student-athletes from several intercollegiate athletic programs got together in the city for the “Downtown Cleanup Project."
The community service event started at 9 a.m., when clean-up workers assembled at Main and Maumee streets for donuts and beverages before getting to the task at hand.
The goal was to clean up the leaves from the fall and prep the city for the winter holiday season.
The Bulldog community of Women's Lacrosse, Women's and Men's Lacrosse, Skating, Softball, Men's and Women's Golf and Men's and Women's Tennis, as well as many fraternities, helped make the city community look clean and nice.
They assisted in sweeping streets, raking leaves, cleaning benches and trash cans, prepping pine and bows and then hanging them on the street lights, organizing strings of lights, and prepping light posts for the Christmas trees at Comstock Park.
"This was another great opportunity for the student-athletes at Adrian College to give back to our community," stated Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president Sean Cain, who is a member of the Bulldogs men's soccer program. "This community gives so much to us for nine-plus months out of the year...so we wanted to show the City of Adrian we do appreciate that support. We were excited for the opportunity to support back by assisting with Downtown Adrian Clean-up.
"We now will shift to Field Day 2017, in the spring which is our next event for the community."
