Women's Wrestling Finishes in the Upper Half of the 30-Team Missouri Valley College Open

MARSHALL, Mo.--The Adrian College women's wrestling squad scored 40 points to finish 14th out of 30 schools at the Missouri Valley College Open at the Burns Athletic Center on Saturday.

Junior Deandra Benn paced the Bulldogs with a seventh-place showing at 130 pounds, winning five of seven bouts on the afternoon. Benn won her opening match over Melanie Cordero from Menlo College in a fall of 2 minutes and 54 seconds, but was knocked out of the championship flight in her next outing. However, she bounced back with three consecutive victories that included two pinfalls and a technical fall.

Also contributing to Adrian's team score were freshman Holly Bailor (1 point, 0-2 record w/bye) at 109, senior Kassidy Block (9.5, 3-2) at 123, freshman Tygan Nelson (6, 2-2 w/bye) at 136, freshman Mackenzie Matta (0-2 w/bye) at 143 and Marguerite Elliott (1-2 w/bye) at 155.

Adrian returns to the mat after Thanksgiving on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15-16, for the Women's WestCoast Tournament Of Champions at the Hardwood Palace in Rocklin, Calif. This event replaced the National Wrestling Coaches' Association Duals originally for Jan. 5 on the Adrian schedule.
