Bulldogs Blank Barons to Open Ginny Kilt Classic

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Adrian College women's volleyball team took down Franciscan in straight sets to open play in the Ginny Kilt Classic on Friday, Sep. 14

THE BASICS

Final Score: Adrian 3, Franciscan 0 (25-5, 25-13, 25-17)

Location: Wooster, Ohio (Timkin Gymnasium)

Records: Adrian 4-4 (0-0 MIAA), Franciscan 1-9 (0-0 AMCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Franciscan won the first point of the match, but that was the only lead it held in the first set. The Bulldogs came out strong and absolutely shut down the Barons, winning the first set 25-5.

The second set was much closer in the beginning, but Adrian was able to pull away midway through the set for a 12 point win, 25-13.

The Black and Gold would not be denied their sweep in the third set, taking care of business, winning the set 25-17 to take the match in straight sets.

TOP DOGS

• Seniors Jordan Pizzo and Olivia Welch led the Bulldogs in kills with nine and eight, respectively. Welch also added eight digs and two service aces

• Sophomore Liz Susitko was Adrian's leader in assists and digs, finishing with 34 helpers and 11 digs.

THE OPPOSITION

• Maria Ciola led the Franciscan offense with six kills.

• Emily Nutter led the Barons in assists with 15.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs play tournaments hosts Wooster later today before finishing the tournament tomorrow with games against Bethany (W.V.) at 11 a.m. and Marietta at 1 p.m.
