LEXINGTON, Ky.--The Adrian College women's volleyball program, under the director of seven-year head coach David Kwan, is a repeat recipient of the 2017-18 AVCA Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In fact, the Bulldogs have been recognized as achieving a Top-25 Team GPA for NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball at No. 130--only 174 D-III institutions in the NCAA's largest classification met the 3.00 threshold.
Adrian finished the 2017-18 school year with a cumulative team GPA of 3.60, the highest in the conference, to receive its seventh AVCA Team Academic Award (1994-95, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2012-13, 2015-16 and 2016-17)--fourth in the Kwan era--since the inception of the award in the 1992-93 academic year.
Seventeen members of the 27 students-athletes rostered last fall achieved a 3.0 or better overall GPA, led by sophomore Carly Thomas and freshman Alex Tobler with perfect 4.0's and junior Olivia Welch with a 3.99.
The AVCA academic award honors teams which have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom. Collegiate and high school volleyball teams must maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 GPA on a 5.0 scale.
