Women's Volleyball Starts Season at Bluffton's Sommer Spiketacular

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Adrian College women's volleyball team dropped its first two matches at Bluffton University's Sommer Spiketacular on Friday. The Bulldogs were defeated in three straight sets by host Bluffton to start the day. Adrian faced Depauw in the team's final match of day one, losing 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Adrian led Bluffton throughtout the first set, building a lead of six points near the midway mark. The Beavers continued to battle back, tying the score at 20, 21, 23, 24, and 25 before scoring the final two points of the first to take the 1-0 lead.

Bluffton took a seven point lead in the second (15-8) before closing out the set to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Adrian kept set three close but the Beavers were able to pull ahead and win the set 25-20 to take the match.

The Bulldogs had hit .070, .000, and .064 in the three sets against the Beavers. Bluffton hit .045, .086, and .225. Both teams tallied 36 kills for the match. The Beavers edged the Bulldogs in assists (35-33) and digs (60-54).

TOP DOGS

Jenai White led Adrian's offense in game one with seven kills. She also tied for a team-high three block assists.

Liz Susitko paced the Bulldog offense against Bluffton with 28 assists. She also tallied three kills and four digs.

 

THE OPPOSITION

• Jessie Gibson tallied six kills to lead the Beavers.

• Remi Bowser (5 kills), Carley Lester (4), and Erin Weisgarber (4) also contributed on offense.

• Weisgarber had a match-high 29 assists in the win for Bluffton.

Adrian continues the Bluffton Sommer Spiketacular tomorrow with matches against Heidelberg (10:00 a.m.) and Hanover (2:00 p.m.).
