Doubles Sweep Sets the Tone for Women's Tennis MIAA Victory Over Visiting Alma, 7-2

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College women's tennis team swept three doubles matches and earned four of six singles bouts to take a 7-2 victory over visiting Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at the Craft Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

Adrian snaps a two-match losing streak to draw level in the MIAA at 2-2 and improve to 7-9 overall. Alma drops to 3-10 on the season and 0-4 in the conference.

Senior Victoria Watson paced the host Bulldogs with a pair of wins, teaming with junior Amber Laginess at No. 1 doubles to beat Claudia Barajas/Caroline Ross, 8-5, and at No. 4 singles over Chloe Ramsey 6-3, 7-6 (0). The top doubles tandem clinched the match victory for the 'Dogs.

Freshman Samantha Cyrus also earned two points for Adrian on the strength of a No. 2 doubles win with junior Renae Adams Almasy (8-1) and No. 3 singles triumph (6-1, 6-1).

Freshman Makayla Jorgensen is a third Bulldog to capture two victories: No. 3 doubles with classmate Julia Maltbie (8-3) and No. 6 singles (6-4, 2-6, 10-5).

Junior Olivia Neumann of Adrian defeated Jessica Penhale, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.

The Scots' two points came at the top-two singles slots: No. 1 Barajas over Laginess 6-1, 6-0, and No. 2 over Almasy in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 5-7, 11-9.

Adrian returns to MIAA homecourt action on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Kalamazoo College.
