SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The women's tennis team played a pair of matches on Saturday with a 6-3 loss to Wittenberg and a 9-0 win over Central State (Ohio). Adrian is now 7-3 overall on the season.
The Bulldogs had a good performance by Morgan Spencer and Justine Hanson in the Wittenberg match as the duo scored all three points. The tandem won 9-7 at No. 2 doubles over Lexi Garza and Jaimie Whaley. Spencer won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles over Morgan McDermott. Hanson won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles over Andrea Gaietto. Arielle Williams went three sets at No. 1 singles but fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 against Olivia Underwood.
"I think this match was ours for the taking, but we did not take it," said head coach Adam Albertsen. "Morgan and Justine really played well and we needed a better team effort across the board."
The Bulldogs had very little resistance against the Marauders of Central State in the day's second match. Adrian dropped just two games during the entire match against the NCAA Division II school. All six singles matches ended up 6-0, 6-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Adrian also won 8-1 at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
The conference season begins on Mar. 30 in the next match for Adrian at Kalamazoo with a 2 p.m. start.
