Women’s tennis ties Adrian win record with 8-1 MIAA win

ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's tennis team tied the school record for most wins in a season with eight by dismantling Olivet College, 8-1, Sunday afternoon.

Adrian is a force to be reckoned with when playing at home at the Craft Tennis Complex. Alma College is the only school to beat Adrian at home this season as the Bulldogs picked up their fifth win on their home courts.

After sweeping doubles play by a combined 24-10 edge in games, the women's team then dominated in singles play by a combined 62-20 count in games.

Justine Hanson looked impressive in her straight-set victories by shutout.

Coach Albertsen discussed the emergence of this year's freshman class that includes Hanson.

"One of the team goals we had coming into the year was equaling or eclipsing the eight-win record. I think we set the bar kind of high by challenging a group of predominately first-year players, but they have met that challenge today. It is very rewarding from a coaching perspective when you have a group eager to learn and watch them develop over the season."

Another pair of freshmen gave the spectators the closest match of the afternoon. Arielle Williams and Morgan Spencer won by only a three-game spread in No. 1 doubles, 8-5.

"Arielle and Morgan played very well together today. They jumped out to a nice lead and shut the door on Olivet to seal the win and put us ahead in all three doubles matches," said Albertsen.

Jordenne Ferenczi and Karen Kienitz won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2; while Jordyn Grant and Hanson won at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

Spencer, Ferenczi, Grant, and Kathryn Van Wormer won at No. 2, No.3, No.4 and No.6 singles, respectively, while only dropping eight total games of 56.
