Softball Splits on Day One in Florida
CLERMONT, Fla. - The Adrian College softball team split a pair of games on day one in Florida with an 8-1 loss to Susquehanna followed by a 9-6 win over Emerson at Hancock Park.
Susquehanna scored in each of the first three innings building a 6-0 lead against freshman pitcher Kelsey Meyer. Meyer settled in over her final three innings to allow two runs, but the Bulldogs bats could not break through against Morgan Lewis. Lewis went seven innings and allowed nine hits and just one earned run. Adrian left seven runners on base in the contest. Meyer finished with six innings allowing eight hits and five earned runs with three strikeouts.
Freshman Jessica Sarch went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot and also reached base with a walk. Sophomore Brooke Stewart also went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Freshman K'ya Toles-Burton drove in Adrian's run in the sixth inning.
Adrian put up five runs in the second inning against Emerson and hung on for the win. Emerson responded with four runs in the third and added two more in the seventh on a homer by Alexandra Wysota. Stewart collected two more doubles and went 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Junior Katie Dewyre also went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Freshman Morgan Brandt collected two hits in three at-bats with a run scored and RBI. Sophomore Kaitlyn Hinojosa had a 3-for-3 game at the plate with two runs scored and two doubles. Stewart also pitched seven innings and allowed six earned runs with eight strikeouts.
The Bulldogs will play Coe (1 p.m.) and Misericordia (3 p.m.) tomorrow.
