FREELAND, Mich. - Adrian College women's soccer swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week Awards for the week of Oct. 1 to Oct. 7, with freshman Sarah Brannan and sophomore Megan Louwers receiving the honors.
Brannan and the rest of the Bulldogs' defense picked up two shutouts in conference play last week, blanking Calvin on the road 1-0 on Tuesday and subduing Kalamazoo 2-0 on Sunday. Brannan scored the only goal in the win over Calvin before helping hold the Hornets to only two shots on goal to help the Black and Gold remain perfect in conference play this year.
Louwers has been a standout for AC on offense this year, tied with two others for the team lead in goals and points with five and 13, respectively, as part of the Bulldogs' three-headed attack. Louwers assisted on the game-winning goal against Kalamazoo before icing the game with a goal of her own in the 63rd minute.
This is the first time this season that a member of the Adrian College women's soccer team has been named a Player of the Week by the MIAA. It is the first MIAA award in the careers of both players. The last time Adrian swept the Player of the Week was the last week of October last season.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when Hope comes to town for a conference showdown at noon. Adrian and Hope are two of three schools that are unbeaten in MIAA play so far.
