SALEM, Va. – The Adrian College women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw Saturday, Sep. 8 with Roanoke in game one of the Roanoke Invitational Soccer Showcase.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was a defensive battle in the first half, with neither team able to find a way to put the ball in the other team's net.

The second half was the same defensive battle seen in the first, with the teams still unable to break the deadlock, sending the game into overtime.

The Bulldogs had a chance to win the game in the final minute of the first overtime when Roanoke was called for a hand-ball violation just outside the box. Sophomore Angela Davis's free kick was blocked by the wall, sending the game into a second overtime.

The goalmouths remained sealed in double overtime, as the two teams played to a scoreless draw. Adrian looked in control for almost the entire game, doubling the shots on goal the Maroons had.

TOP DOGS

• Junior Caroline Fleming led the team in shots, taking four in the match.

• Sophomore Mya Oleksiak was second in shots, taking three in the double overtime affair.

• Junior goalkeeper Ayverie Giller made six saves in the shutout performance.

THE OPPOSITION

• Tori Young led the Maroons in shots, taking three, with all three going on net.

• Goalkeeper Chris Martin kept Roanoke in the game, making six total saves on the day.

QUOTABLE

• "There were a lot of things to be pleased with today, but the thing we're most pleased with is the fact that we aren't content with the result. Under most circumstances, earning a draw on the road against a quality squad is a reason for celebration, but this team has set its sights higher." – Head Coach Ali Alamdari

• "Tomorrow will be a battle against one of the top teams in the country, who are only a couple years off of their national championship in 2014. It's another chance for us to grow and prove ourselves and we're looking forward to it." – Alamdari
