Three Adrian Players Earn All-Region Honors In Women's Soccer By The NSCAA

Kansas City, Kan. – A school-record three members of the Adrian College women's soccer team were named to the 2011 NSCAA NCAA Division III All-Central Region Teams.  NSCAA is the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Sophomore forward Sam Barker was tabbed first-team, freshman forward Erin Weide earned second-team honors, and senior defender Kellie Irwin garnered third-team honors. Lindsay Chitwood (2009, third-team) was the only other student-athlete to ever have earned this honor.

Barker, who was recently named to the All-American team, led all college soccer (men, women, DI, DII, DIII, NAIA) in game winning goals with 13 with 12 coming in MIAA play. She led the league in goals (25) and points (57) and was in the top-5 in assists (7). She continuously came up big in big moments despite consistent man-marking and/or double-teaming. She also recorded her third career and her first hat trick of the season in the MIAA Semifinals. This adds to Barker's First Team All-MIAA and MIAA Most Valuable Player accolades this year.

Weide led the team and was second in the MIAA with nine assists. She was also second on the team and tied for ninth in the league with seven goals. For the season, Weide was second on the team and sixth in the MIAA with 23 points. Weide earned a spot to the All-MIAA First Team earlier last month.

Irwin, who was also a 2011 First Team All-MIAA honoree, was the backbone of the Adrian's defense. She is the team's career leader in games, starts, and minutes. She was one of five Lady Bulldogs to start all 22 games this season.

The Adrian Lady Bulldogs finished 2011 with the best season in school history. They won their first conference regular season championship in 23 years with a 17-5 overall and 14-2 conference record, both school records.
