ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and fell in a hard fought match to MIAA foe Kalamazoo, 1-0. The Lady Bulldogs drop to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Hornets improve to 4-3 and 2-1 against the league.
Adrian came out strong offensively in the first half with five shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. The game was tied 0-0 at half, despite Adrian holding a 9-2 shot advantage.
In the 50th minute mark, Kalamazoo's Jackie Short earned her team-leading fourth goal on the season when she rebounded the ball off an Adrian deflection and placed it in the goal for the lone score of the game. Rachel Pitzer was credited with the assist.
Adrian had chances for the equalizer including an impressive 30-yard attempt that hit the crossbar from the far left wing off the foot of Barker in the 67th minute.
Adrian's Erin Weide had a game-high three shots on goal, while Sam Barker recorded two. Also contributing on offense was Patti Vaassen and Becky Reynolds who each had one shot on goal. For the game, the Lady Bulldogs outshot the Hornets 14-6.
The Bulldogs look to get back in the win column as it hosts Trine on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7:00PM.
