Women Lax Opens with 14-10 Win over Colorado College
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Senior Olivia Duncan scored five goals and added one assist on Friday in the season opener for the women's lacrosse team. The Bulldogs defeated Colorado College 14-10 at Oosterbaan Field House in Ann Arbor because the team's home field, Performance Stadium, was unplayable due to recent weather.
Freshman goalie Maddie McDonald also had a very impressive debut with 14 saves picking up the win in net. Adrian led 9-5 at halftime as both teams scored five goals in the second half. No team scored in the final 7:10 of the contest as the Bulldogs kept the Tigers just out of reach.
Adrian was outshot 27-24 by the Tigers but McDonald made sure her team would improve to 1-0. Senior Cassie Hoyez added a goal and three assists and tied the team-high with six draw controls. Senior Stacey Birlson added two goals and one assist. Senior Heather Newblom scored the game-winning goal and finished with a pair of goals and two caused turnovers.
