Second Half Surge Sends Bulldogs to Win Over Sewanee
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bulldogs defended the net well and scored 11 second half goals to propel Adrian to a 19-13 victory over Sewanee in a neutral site game played at Sacred Heart Academy (Ky.). Senior Amanda Lambert totaled eight points on four goals and four assists to improve the Bulldogs to 12-2 on the season.
Sewanee started off the scoring, as Molly Arnold made it a 1-0 game at the 28:01 mark in the first half. From there, Adrian rattled off three straight goals as Hannah Early, Rachel Johnston, and Lambert gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead.
With the first half coming to a close and Adrian holding onto a 7-5 lead, senior Lindsey Day added one of her four goals with 16 seconds left in the half to give the Bulldogs a three-goal lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Sewanee battled back, scoring four straight goals in under five minutes to tie the game, 9-9. Adrian then netted the next seven of eight goals, giving the Bulldogs a 16-10 lead and making the game out of reach for the Tigers.
Day, Lambert, and Cassie Hoyez all scored four goals for Adrian, while Stacey Birlson, Olivia Duncan and Hannah Early all added two goals. Laura Finfrock started the game in the net and stopped six first half shots before being replaced by Jul Tehovnik, who stopped five shots in the second.
The Bulldogs managed two man down goals on the game, as Johnston scored one in the first half and Day added one in the second.
Adrian gets a week to prepare for its next game, as the Bulldogs will host Carthage on Saturday, then welcome Concordia (Wis.) on Sunday. The two MWLC games will both start at 1:00 p.m. this upcoming weekend.
